Antique Binirayan Festival 2012 Schedule of Activities


The Binirayan Festival 2012 of the Province of Antique will be officially launched this December 17, 2012. This year’s theme is “Weaving the Antiqueño Identity” aims to highlight Antiqueño’s uniqueness in various field such as tourism, food, products, and culture.

Here is a short information about the Antique Binirayan Festival. “Binirayan” comes from Antique’s local language (Kinaray-a) “biray” or “sailboat” refers to the difficult journey of the 10 datus where they where they sailed to Malandog beach, where they befriended the Atis (Aetas) and eventually started a civilization in pre-Hispanic times.

The Binirayan Festival commemorates the legend of the arrival of the ten Bornean datus on the island of Aninipay now known as Panay. It is a week long festivities of colorful street parades, trade fair, shows, food festival, and Search for Binirayan Queen.
